Modern Challenges to Health, Conscience, and Human Dignity

Course Objectives




DESCRIPTION


The conference will reflect on the significance of Pope John Paul II’s teaching to the medical profession, “…accept and experience sexuality and love and the whole of life according to their true meaning and their close inter-connection.” Physician experts, theologians, and expert speakers, in panel format, will provide medical and theological analysis of the discourses delivered by the late Pope John Paul II in 129 addresses that have been collected and published as the “Theology of The Body”.





WHO SHOULD ATTEND


This activity is intended for physicians, osteopathic physicians, dental surgeons, dentists, physicians in training (i.e. residents, interns, and medical students), allied health professionals (i.e. physician assistants, nurses, etc.), scientists, members of the clergy, people of the clergy, and people of goodwill/general public.




OBJECTIVES

After attending this activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Apply the principles of the “Theology of The Body” to the practice and delivery of medicine and healthcare, irrespective of specialty in the modern world with its’ modern challenges.
  2. Study, further analyze, and reflect on these discourses in more depth.
  3. Encourage colleagues to rediscover the original meaning of the human body, its’ dignity and the meaning of human sexuality.


ACCREDITATION STATEMENT


This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Catholic Medical Association. The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

This application has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 15 prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 17.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
