CMA Delivers Statement to Institute of Medicine
March 09, 2011
As part of the implementation of ObamaCare, the Institute of Medicine held three hearings to assist HHS in determining what “preventive services” for women will be mandatory for all health insurers and insurance plans to provide (with no upfront costs to patients). A decision is due in August 2011, and there have been many loud voices advocating for contraception.
No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act Passes House Judiciary Committee

H.R. 3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, was passed successfully out of the House Judiciary Committee today. All amendments meant to weaken the proscriptions on federal funding for abortion and conscience protections were defeated.

Democrat Advisor Gives “Honest Advice” on Health Care Reform

Clinton administration Treasury Secretary and Obama advisor Robert B. Reich gave a speech in Berkely in 2007 in which he described what an honest presidential candidate could and should say about health care reform. Is it possible , based on what we have seen so far in health reform legislation, that members of Congress are following Reich's advice, but not using his frank speech?
CMA Issues Open Letter to Catholic Organizations

On Monday, September 21, the Catholic Medical Association issued an open letter to Catholic organizations and individual Catholics to share its views on key prudential aspects of health care reform legislation. The letter calls for a renewed emphasis on the principle of subsidiarity acros the spectum of issues in health care financing and services.
