Archbishop Chaput to Lead Philadelphia Archdiocese
July 19, 2011
Pope Benedict XVI has chosen Archbishop Charles Chaput, OFM Cap., to lead the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, following the retirement of Justin Cardinal Rigali. The Catholic Medical Association, which is headquartered in the Archdiocese of Philadelophia, welcomes the appointment of this outstanding witness to the Gospel of Life.
Archbishop Chaput has gained a reputation as a forceful, faithful evangelist. In speeches, books, and interviews, he has become an articulate exponent of the Culture of Life and a defender of the Church and Catholic teachings on faith and morals. His views on a wide range of topics can be found in this comprehensive interview conducted by John Allen in anticipation of his appointment to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
The CMA welcomes this appointment and the opportunity it provides to work more closely with Archbishop Chaput.
