2012 Outstanding Guild Award

The St. Raphael Guild of Duluth, Minnesota was the winner of the 3rd Annual Outstanding Guild Award for designing and implementing an impressive new program of outreach to the mentally ill and their families.

• The guild’s original program, called “One in Mind and Heart, was created to meet the needs of a vulnerable and often-forgotten population – those suffering from mental illnesses, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizo-affective disorder, depression, and severe anxiety disorders, which too often alienate the suffering and their families from the Church.
  • “One in Mind and Heart” is designed to bring these patients back into communion with the Church through regular support group sessions structured to work within the diocese.
  • Materials for support group sessions are based on sound, orthodox Church teachings and resources, including Sacred Scripture, the Summa Theologiae, Salvifici doloris, and Veritatis splendor.
