Fr. William V. Blazek, S.J., M.D., FACP

Fr. William V. Blazek, S.J., 51, hails from Chicago. After completing his Bachelor’s Degree at Marquette University, Father Blazek served five years in the 101st Airborne Division as an Infantry Officer, and deployed to Saudi Arabia and Iraq in the 1991 Gulf War.  After the service, Father Blazek earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Rush Medical College, entering the Society of Jesus in 2001, immediately following residency. Since completing the novitate, he has enjoyed actively sharing the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola through the giving of retreats, spiritual direction, workshops, and other presentations.  After completing a Master’s Degree in health care ethics at Loyola University Chicago, Father Blazek was assigned to Georgetown University as an assistant professor of medicine. He served as an advisor to the US Secretary of Defense on the Defense Health Board, a federal advisory panel addressing matters pertaining to the military health system. Father Blazek studied theology at Boston College and was ordained to the ministerial priesthood of Jesus Christ in 2012. After an initial parish assignment as Parochial Vicar at Gesu Parish in University Heights, Ohio, he was appointed in August, 2013 as the Director of the Integritas Institute for Ethics at the Blessed John Paul II Newman Center, University of Illinois Chicago.  His most recent assignment is as Retreat Director at the Manresa Jesuit House of Retreats in Convent, LA.
