Holy Week
April 18, 2011
I apologize to all for the lack of posting these past couple of weeks. Between completing my Internal Medicine clerkship (and the related shelf exam) and preparing for Holy Week, it has been quite busy. That being said. I do have a few thoughts to share this week.
Lent is coming to a close, which means we are approaching the highest of all Feasts within the Church, that glorious day of Easter. But prior to Easter, we will still be passing through Good Friday. I have heard it said, "There is no Easter without Good Friday." This is a phrase I believe is applicable to many situations throughout our life on this earth. Think ofthe suffering patients that we encounter. They are enduring their good Friday, their agony. These individuals are walking along the Via Delarosa, walking with Christ as He carries the heavy cross. And yet, do they know that they walk with Christ? Do they know that Easter awaits them? Do they have the hope of the glory that their suffering can bring them? Sadly, for many the answer is no. Why is this? It is because we, in our fallen state as health care professionals, have failed. We have failed to be a witness of the compassion of Christ to them, we have failed to reveal to them the Truth of their suffering. A harsh judgement, I know. But I also know that this is true because I have failed time and time again in this.
So this Friday, as we remember the agonies of Christ, those agonies that we cause with our own sin, let us join our heart to Christ's own Sacred Heart, so that on Easter morning we may experience his Resurrection. From that Resurrection, let us go forth, filled with Christ's Risen Glory and share it with those who are still enduring their own Good Friday.
