Historic Nashville Pilgrimage

Cost per person $75.00.  Includes transportation and lunch


This pilgrimage will trace the story of Catholicism in Nashville from the coming of the French explorers to the amazing city it is today. As one of the oldest diocese in the United States, it has given the Church thirteen bishops who were born in Tennessee or worked in the diocese. Highlights include a visit to the site of the oldest Catholic Church in Nashville, a tour of the oldest extant Church in downtown Nashville, Mass and lunch at Assumption Church, the original parish of Cardinal Samuel Stritch, the first American appointed to the Roman Curia, and a tour of the Convent of St. Cecilia, home to the Dominican Sisters of the St. Cecilia Congregation. The pilgrimage will be led by Steve McCarthy, past Professor of History at Aquinas College in Nashville who will provide historical overviews during the tour.

9:00 am Leave Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center
9:30 am Holy Rosary Cathedral
10:00 am Presentation on the Catholic Church in Nashville History
10:30 am St. Mary of the Seven Sorrows
11:30 am Mass at the Assumption Church
12:15 pm Lunch in Father Bernard Hall *
1:30 pm St. Cecelia Convent
3:30 pm Return to the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center


*Lunch options: Southern Fried Chicken  An all time favorite.  A tender chicken breast skillet fried the old southern way.  Served with Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Yeast Roll, and Dessert Cookie.   OR   Vegetarian Delight   Whole grain bread, fresh sliced avocado, sprouts, sliced tomatoe, cucumbers with a dill yogurt sauce. Served with fresh fruit. (does not include dessert).  Please pick your meal choice on the registration form.
