CMA Women Physicians Respond to Women Senators’ Column
In a Feb. 7, 2012 Wall St. Journal op-ed, Democrat Senators Boxer, Murray, and Shaheen claimed that President Obama’s HHS mandate was a victory for women’s health. Several CMA women physician members, including president Maricela P. Moffitt, M.D., M.P.H., and past president Kathleen Raviele, M.D., responded to this column, asserting that President Obama’s mandate is bad for women’s health and for the profession of medicine. Pittsburgh’s bishop, David A Zubik, issued a strong statement in reaction to the HHS mandate targeting Catholic institutions. According to Bishop Zubik, “The Obama administration has just told the Catholics of the United States, “To Hell with you!” There is no other way to put it.”
