Thanks to Our Sunday Visitor Institute (OSV), the philanthropic arm of OSV, the Catholic Medical Association was able to offer a number of scholarships to cover the registration of the conference for medical students and residents of Hispanic heritage. This was part of the CMA’s effort to increase involvement from the fastest growing minority group in the United States. The OSV Scholarships are part of the OSV Institutes own effort to promote the contribution of Latinos in the Church through the Hispanic Experience Fund.

The Institute supports innovative and effective Church-related programs and activities and sees the CMA as a partner in their mission of helping Catholics live out their faith and contributing to the strength and vitality of the Church.

“These scholarships are important in expanding the reach of Latino medical professionals,” said President Jason Shanks. “It is our belief that the whole medical profession will benefit from their involvement and these worthy recipients will inspire the next generation of Latino doctors.”

Dr. Cecilia Jojola is exactly the type of person OSV wants to promote, and no doubt the CMA has benefited greatly from her contributions. She not only served as the immediate past president of the CMA Resident Board, but previously served as the CMA-RS Technology Chair for the 2017-18 term and is currently serving in that capacity again. She is also a resident representative on the Young Member Advisory Committee. And she peer-reviews articles for the Linacre Quarterly and has contributed to The Pulse of Catholic Medicine on several occasions.

“There is no doubt that Latino physicians like Dr. Jojola are enriching the CMA in countless ways for which we feel blessed and grateful,” said Executive Director Mario Dickerson. “We are proud to partner with the OSV Institute to advance the shared mission of expanding the reach of Latino Catholics, particularly health care professionals, both in the CMA and the greater Church. We are grateful for their support.”
