Philadelphia, PA -April 5, 2022- Catholic Medical Association extends it heartfelt congratulations to Bishop-elect Earl Fernandes, who Pope Francis named Bishop of the Diocese of Columbus, OH.
“Congratulations to Bishop-elect Fernandes on this monumental accomplishment. We know that your faith will inspire and guide the people of Columbus as you carry out the duties of your new role of Bishop,” said Craig Treptow, M.D., President of Catholic Medical Association.
In an article in The Columbus Dispatch, Bishop-elect Fernandes said about his new appointment, “We need to be spiritual entrepreneurs…We need to help everybody live their vocations and see Christianity not just as a set of rules, but a way of life.”
Bishop-elect Fernandes, who serves as the chaplain for CMA’s Southwest Ohio Guild, is the brother of two other members of CMA, Drs. Ashley and Eustace Fernandes.
He is the first Indian-American Bishop in the Catholic Church and will be installed at the end of May.
“We are proud to have Bishop-elect Fernandes as a member of Catholic Medical Association and look forward to the impact he will have in Columbus and in the Catholic Church” added Dr. Treptow.
