Embers March 2026

March 6, 2026

We honor St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary (March 19), who never hesitated to follow the will of God. Our theme this month is Be Not Afraid as we strive to fulfill the will of God in our lives. St. Joseph immediately responded to the angel appearing to him in a dream, taking his wife, Mary, into his home and later leaving in the dark of night for Egypt with the infant Jesus and his Mother. As we continue on our Lenten journey, consider all the sacrifices St. Joseph made as provider and guardian for the Holy Family. We recommend Joseph the Silent by Michel Gasnier, O.P. and Consecration to St. Joseph by Fr. Donald Calloway.

Please be praying this month for the Resident Match Day (March 20), that our student members get into the best programs for them. The next CMA ZOOM Prayer Group will be Saturday, March 14 at 2:00 PM EDT. Come join us for prayer!

St. Katharine Drexel (1858-1955) founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, dedicated to educating native and black Americans, with the vast wealth inherited from her pious parents. Inspired by St. Joseph and Pope Leo XIII, she established schools across the country and Xavier University in New Orleans, the first Catholic university for black students in the U.S. She had a great love for the Eucharist and desired the unity of all people. She is the second American-born saint and her feast day is March 3. The first miracle attributed to her intercession was the healing of a boy’s damaged ear.

SS. Perpetua and Felicity (March 7) were courageous young mothers facing death as Christians in Carthage by the sword. St. Maximilian of Theveste (March 12) also a martyr in North Africa during the third century, died for refusing to serve in the Roman army. St. Roderick (March 13) was a Catholic priest in Muslim-controlled 9th century Spain. He died for the Faith in prison after the false witness of his Muslim brother. We celebrate The Annunciation of the Lord on March 25 and enter into Holy Week with Palm Sunday on March 29.
