Medcon 2025: Healthcare Needs Heroes

May 13, 2025

The Catholic Medical Association hosted Medcon 2025, a conference for Catholic pre-medical students discerning a career in medicine, one rooted in the teachings and ministry of Christ. The conference was held at the Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine, a state-of-the-art medical school in downtown Wichita, Kansas April 25-27, 2025.

The Church has often been described as a field hospital, offering solace and care to the wounded hearts and bodies within our society. Today, this call to heal has never been louder. Medcon is one response to help prepare future physicians and medical professionals.

Local Ob/Gyn and Wichita native, Dr. Jonathan Scrafford chaired the conference and welcomed students who experienced meaningful discussions, shared prayer, and an enriched sense of community. Renowned speakers included Dr. Marguerite Duane, co-founder and executive director of FACTS, and Dr. Chris Stroud, award-winning podcaster and founder of Fertility and Midwifery Care Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Other regional and local speakers provided additional guidance in navigating the ethical complexities of medicine, leaving attendees inspired and hopeful about the role Catholics play in transforming health care.  Students were equipped with the tools necessary to align a medical practice with Christ’s healing ministry. This unique gathering inspired hope and provided a strong foundation of principles for Catholic students preparing to face the challenges of medical training.
